Discrete Cosine Transform Domain Parallel LMS Equalizer

The least mean square (LMS) algorithm is the most popular adaptive ltering method due to its simplicity and predictable behavior. The convergence properties of the LMS algorithm can be improved by updating the lter coe cients in the transform domain. This paper presents a new transform domain LMS equalizer, called Discrete Cosine Transform Domain Parallel LMS (DCTPLMS) equalizer, which updates the lter coe cients in the discrete cosine transform domain for the purpose of equalization of time-varying channels. Computer simulation results obtained by using a second order Markov communication channel model show that the proposed DCTPLMS equalizer provides a signi cant performance improvement relative to the conventional DCT-domain LMS as well as other time-domain based LTEs and DFEs.
